RESET programme

Have you done some running before but "lapsed"?  Got too busy with kids, summer hols, hot weather, and stopped going out for a run as much as you wanted to?

I hear a lot from people that have done our beginners programmes, and then, for whatever reason, haven't kept going.  Or people that have had babies, or got injured, or been too busy with work, and so had an unintentional 'gap'.

Is this you?

If you have already done some running before, then our 0-5k programme is not the place for you to be - it starts from a level that is too easy (it is aimed at people with no running experience *at all*), so you'll be going backwards.  And more importantly, you'll be scaring off our legitimate beginners who will wonder where all the speedy ones have come from!

And, if you've had a gap, you may not be confident in joining our usual club training sessions just yet.  We've been wondering what to do about this for a while, and have come up with a cunning plan (to quote Baldrick...).

So, welcome to our running RESET programme!

There are two options, either an endurance option (for those that feel OK doing short distances but are worried about building it up), or a speed option (for those that can plod along happily, but want to increase their pace).  You can, if you like, mix and match between the two :)  Each session is planned specifically for people that are returning to running, and with options throughout to suit all abilities.  All of our sessions are taught by our team of experienced England Athletics qualified coaches, sports conditioning specialists and run leaders, and covered by our insurance.  The programme is 5 weeks long, and costs a bargain price of £15 per option.

Endurance option - at Cottenham Village Green, meet 6:30pm.
Mondays : short distance endurance run, up to 5k.
Thursdays : Training session focusing on building up aerobic capacity and efficiency.

Speed option - at Over Village Green, meet 6:30pm.
Tuesdays : Training session focusing on improving strength and increasing pace.
Fridays : 30 mins speed training - intervals, fartlek and so on.  Optional trot round the village afterwards.

There is also a closed Facebook group where you can learn what we're planning to do each night, and ask any questions to our coaching team.

These sessions are running (pun intended...) alongside our club sessions on Tues and Thurs, so you will do a warm up and cool down with the main club session, but then have a specific session based on your needs.

If you haven't had a gap, but want to work on either of these aspects then you're welcome too!  The speed option in particular is great paired with a long distance training plan - get faster, stronger, and become a more efficient runner.

The programme starts on Monday 12th September (once the kids are happily back to school etc), and places are limited so get signed up now!  Our last 'faster 5k' programme sold out in 24 hours so don't delay!

To join in, please email or message us on Facebook @FenEdgeRunners - first come first served!

Thoughts on running club

"No, your running club isn't right for me. That's where all the fast runners go"
"It's mixed ability"
"That doesn't mean they're all fast"
"That's why it says it's mixed ability.  If it was where all the fast ones go, I'd call it 'the one where all the fast ones go'"
"Oh.  But I can't run for an hour"
"You don't need to, we don't just run"
"What do you do then?"
"Coached technique, drills, speed work, sometimes things like squats and strength, sometimes we work on pace, sometimes we do some agility and coordination, sometimes we do circuit training"
"Oh, like the stuff we do at bootcamp but with extra running bits?  So it's not just running?"
"£3 is a bargain then - why is it so cheap"
"We're a not-for-profit club - it covers our costs"

  • We are operated by a coaching team including a qualified running coach (who also is a personal trainer, handy...) and eight UK Athletics run leaders. We also use local experts in physio, athletics coaching, yoga, sports therapy depending on what we're doing.
  • We operate as a 'not-for-profit' club.  We price cheaply because of this - it's all about inclusion and getting people to join in.
  • Our club is affiliated to UK Athletics.  We're run by committee - the members decide what happens!
  • We are completely (honestly) mixed ability.  We have complete beginners, we have people that run marathons and everything between.  We have slow ones, we have fast ones.
  • We don't just run.  Ok, we do, but we never charge for this - these sessions are on Weds and Saturday and are always FREE.
  • Some of our members race.  Some don't.  Some race as unattached members, some race as members of our affiliated club.  Either way is fine.
Why not come along and try us out?  Leave any ideas you might have at home, as I can guarantee it won't be what you expect!

Tuesdays 6:30 The Exhibition, Over (coached session - £3)
Weds 6:30 Swavesey Sports Centre (endurance session, usually 5 - 6 miles, FREE)
Thursday 6:30, Cottenham Village Green (coached session - £3)
Saturday 3:30, various locations, endurance sessions 5k+, FREE (see Facebook each week for meeting points)
Sunday 10am, The Exhibition, Over (coached session - £3).
